OZ opinions

ok people downunder

Virgin Blue or Tiger Air

i need to get from Mackay to Melbourne
Tiger has cheaper and direct flights (and yes, i do realize they charge for baggage but still the total is less than VB)
4 hour flight time.
but i've heard they're not great.

i don't need fancy, i just need to get from point A to B.

Virgin Blue makes me connect via Brisbane or Sydney and the travel time is almost 7 hours. ugh!
flights are also around $250(AUD) instead of Tiger at $120 (with luggage)

my question, is Tiger really all that bad?

jetstar is not an option for mackay to melbourne.

Well, I'd go with Virgin simply because they are a well-established airline down here. Tiger are a new startup, and had a horrible start to their operation down here, with flights being canceled with no explanations, and just generally bad service.

tho with that time and fare difference
i really don't want to be traveling an extra 4 more hours as it is.
and the fare is going to cut into my income too
ugh

tiger air is ok.. but if ya just wanna get from point a to b and dont mind having no free food on board and small space i say go for it! :)

ive got friends who took tiger from sinapore to hkg/bangkok,no complaints from them though other then the snacks they offer is expensive! and i dont think small space is gonna be an issue for ya cause ya slim

agree. Tiger is a totally no frills carrier. Been helpful for our singaporean community in getting regional flights to catch acts touring around but dont quite hit our city :)

Main issue is will Tiger still be operating come Nov? I'd say go for Tiger as long as you have insurance to cover you if they close/stop flying that route.

oooh
so if they sell insurance on that, i should probably go ahead n grab it then?

nope. that wont work as it's for aussie citizens or residents only
glad i checked before buying it

i wonder how many airlines scam intl passengers that way?!!?

Hey I've flown across the atlantic on a mini-seat-plane and survived. I just had to perch 1/2 my bum on the armrest, actually wasn't all that bad. I always go for the cheapest possible route, and frankly when someone pops for business class for me (e.g. company sending me to china) It still sucks, don' it? MP3 player, a good audiobook, and sleeping pills, and I'm ready to travel in a crate. (that might even be fun?)
