A few days ago, the steps to ban possession and sales of shark fins started to move forward in Sacramento, California. Hawaii has already passed laws against shark fin possession (restaurants do have a grace period to get rid of their current stocks).

Our local news sources have been posting a new flood of articles on the subject - most of them supporting the ban and obviously biased for the new bill.

PBS hosted a discussion on the topic: (article and audio).
They also touch upon non-threatened species and opposing view points (but not a lot).
