The Merkava, Isreali made MBT, is probably the best in the world for combined protection and firepower, with good mobility as well. It has a updated 120mm main gun (w/48 rounds), strengthened to withstand higher bore-pressure than US or Rhienmetal guns, a 60mm morter for firing HE or illumination rounds, various MG's. It can carry 8 infantry or a 3-man CP, or several stretchers in addition to the crew (or an additional 100 rounds). Top-notch fire control systems and stabilization as well.

The tank is considered to have, in addition to very thick and effective composite armor, the best defensive layout of any MBT in service. The engine and one fuel tank are located in the front, to a penetrating round will tend to expend itself in the engine block (which is replacible), or the fuel cell (which is diesel, and not likely to burn), instead of the crew compartment and crew (not so replacible).

Tactical mobility is excellent, with a new 1500hp engine on it's 65ton chassis, and a top end of 60kph on highway, 55kph cross country (depending on definition I'd imagine). I'm a little less confident of grand operational mobility (logisics and mean time between failure), but then, the Israelies aren't likely to be conducting long marches across North Africa, and neither am I.

2nd place would go to the Leopard IIA6, and third to the M1A2 Abrams.

Barring that, t-72, out of nostalghia. First time i drove it, i got it airborne on a steep hill.

I'm going to sound like a total geek here, but I'd like a vintage Lee tank just because they're so funky looking. Sure, they're crap by todays standards and they weren't all that great when they were being made, but they have that totally oddball look to them. You could probably get one real cheap from a VFW hall that wants something less embarassing out front.

I would get a German Tiger 1 Heavy Tank,
http://www.tiger-tank.com
for these reasons
1. The gun was made by Krupp, so it would go good with my Koffee maker.
2. The reat of this monster was made by Porsche and I've always wanted a Porsche. :)
3. This thing scared the Krap outta everyone that it came into contact with.
4. I'd look super cool dressed all in black and riding on top of this thing.

Gonna go with the Panver IV...medium in size, Rommel used them, sexier than the heavier tanks.
