ok
just took my ww1 midterm
we were given a few questions
3 were asked and we were to pick one
the first asked of the causes and inevitablility of ww1
the second had to do with pretending to be a soldier in the trenches writing a letter home.
the third was to consider the counterfactual. basically what would have happened had there been no WW1
WTF?
2 questions based on fantasy?!?!
this course - that at first i was completely excited about - is becoming an entire bore.
we've read fussell and fergusson and watched all quiet on the western front.
great if you're studying british historiography on the subject
but the course IS: Topics in American Military History.
fuck
this is frustrating
next week we watch the xmas treaty. i'm not going
but wed there's Dr Roth who's really cool coming in to speak and he's a ww1 expert.
i'm showing up that day.
the following week we FINALLY cover some american inclusion.
i'm getting sick of being shut down in the class when i bring up air, tank, sea warfare. from this professor, all we get is that they played no decisive part in the war. (tho i've read/heard that more planes were used in the first war than the 2nd. and although they didn't play a decisive part as far as battles go individually, there were achievements and gains made by using the new technologies).
we havent even gotten into the battles in africa or the middle east.
BAH
although i'm sure it wont make a difference in my midterm (question #1 was answered of course), i did include treaties between germany and turkey and the importance of the dardanelles, bosporus straight, Young Turks, and the Gallipoli campaign. i didn't get into germany and british conflicts in asian though. the prof wanted everything to be euro-centered.
