Unfortunately, I wont be spending my birthday in Vienna or Athens as I planned.
For a change, I'll be spending my birthday in Denver, performing and hanging around with [livejournal.com profile] fd_midori and a bunch of Mile-High folks!

According to the Schengen regulations, I can only spend 90 out of 180 days in the EU (schengen countries). My 180 days began in September 21, 2006 when I flew to Vienna after hanging out in London for a week or so. From that date, March 21 would be the beginning of the next 180 day period.

I head for London on February 5, 2007 because that's the 90th day I've spent in the Schengen territories starting from the September date.

I've had so many people tell me that I don't need to pay attention. Even the immigration woman at the Greek border control (when I arrived from London on my last arrival here a couple of weeks ago). BAH. I'd rather keep my record clear. It will make things easier for me when I do apply for my VISA.

After the Torture Garden birthday event, I'll return to Athens to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] fd_midori for some relaxation. [livejournal.com profile] ostanine will be taking care of our weary, bondaged bodies! Then, depending on August (fetishcon is that time of year), I'll be applying for my VISA. In Greece, it's handled thru the local police department. And not difficult from what I understand! In Austria, it's handled thru a different local office.

5.8 magnitude quake jolts southern Greece

ATHENS, Greece: A 5.8 magnitude earthquake rattled southern Greece on Saturday, the Athens Geodynamic Institute reported. No damage or injuries were reported.

The quake occurred at 3:43 p.m. (1343GMT). Its epicenter was 45 kilometers (28 miles) southwest of the island of Kythera, and about 265 kilometers (164.67 miles) southwest of Athens.

The quake was felt in the Peloponnese and in Athens.

Greece lies in one of the world's most seismically active regions.

though i think the pile driver set up just outside the window and a few metres away jolted and shook the home and our heads a bit more.

U.S. senators briefed on embassy attack in Greece

ATHENS, Greece: A group of U.S. senators was briefed Monday on a Jan. 12 rocket attack on the American embassy in Athens, and thanked the government for its response.

No one was hurt in the attack claimed by a far-left Greek militant group Revolutionary Struggle, whose members fired a rocket propelled grenade at the embassy and damaged a restroom on the third floor of the building.

We drove by the embassy on the way to the theater to see Swan Lake...
That's another story.

--------------------------------------------------

After a late start on the opening night, then a complete cancellation of the 2nd night's show (the 1st of Feb when we arrived), we tried to use our tickets for tonight's show. All shows are canceled again until Wednesday (a week after the opening night)

According to other review sites, the opening night show was continuously interrupted with constant and lengthly breaks. A two and a half hour show ended up taking 5 hours with audiences leaving before the end of the show. Despite the great dancing, one person commented, it was still difficult to even keep their eyes open with all the stops to fix technical issues.

Saturday night's show went on. But again with interruptions to fix the technical problems.

[livejournal.com profile] ostanine read someone commented that CATS also had issues at the same theater.
The new high-tech theater designed to accommodate shows like this.

I only wonder what the producers and players are dealing with right now. Ten years of putting on this show and then all this crap. So much advertising and hype, all for a big fiasco. I've yet to find an official statement on the cancellations.
