so i'm trying to upload my images to my moblog
and i'm realizing that not actually writing in LJ but twittering instead makes everything much more difficult as far as keeping track of where i've been and what i've done.

this sucks.

going back on my older LJ postings - or rather, noticing the lack thereof kind of makes me realize i'm going to have to post a bit less in twitter and pay attention to LJ more or else I'm going to not be able to recall travel experiences.

now i have to go back and fix some of my moblog postings cuz i didn't put the wrong dates on them. gah

so i woke up around 4-something am and that sucked
so i fell back asleep
then i woke up around 7 and after posting some tumblr shots, i passed out again around 9am.
then i woke up at 11-ish and had breakfast with my hosts B n F.
F went out to go play with horses so me n B are headed to Edinburgh Castle so I can play tourist and check out the National War Museum.
I hope I don't die from being all ill n shit.
That would suck.

lisbon oceanarium - may 19

lisbon - may 19 above the oceanarium

bondage dude pedro's pad - books in bondage

fish

on may 21 we shifted places and ended up at the VIP Grand Hotel in Lisbon.
the bathtub was huge and had a marble slab to lean back on.
also a big glass window between the bathroom and the bedroom.

the next day (may 22) we took a trip to Belém to check out things.
there happened to be a big graduation ceremony of sorts for firemen i'm guessing
lots of guys in uniform and yet i was pretty exhausted and in a bad mood so i wasn't returning any smiles at all!

i loved the movement thing for this naval cannon

royal barge room was cool

heading back to the hotel, [profile] mistress_sandra  noticed this on the street

this stuff rocks
it's pure cheesy - non-crusty goodness. i hear it's quite fattening

Sunday (the 24th) after the party, Sandra found herself trapped in bed due to having too much fun.
I hit the Japanese resto and had an interview at the hotel.

the last nite in LIsbon (May 26) was fancy dinner night. my fotos of the resto aren't so good though :(
but i did have yummy scallops

the last day was mourning the impending doom (aka: leaving lisbon)

so got the car parked and with minimal winging, i made it up the hill to the castle.
why do those things have to be so high up  anyway? pfft
anyhoo, really liked it. quite nice.
did the little tour which was fun and saw the memorial.
tried to look for the last recorded soldier in the books present but i only found one from 2006 - there must be more recent ones.
lovely building but as it's still in use, no photographs allowed.

then we skipped the room with the royal scepter n stone of destiny n stuff n things to hit the POW prison since it was the way down to the area where the War Museum was. It was pretty cool but a bit small. At the end was what I really wanted to check out and that was the portraits shot by Robert Wilson of Helmand.

[livejournal.com profile] princealbert  came by n we ate sweet stuff at the cafe before heading down the street to the ghost tour thing but ended up not doing that. :P

I thought the portraits were awesome and I really liked the faces shown in them. But the first thing I noticed was that most (of the soldiers at least) simply had a look of exhaustion in their eyes. Of course i could simply be wrong, but when I look at the images of the portraits shot by Don McCullen for example there's something more - or else just simple shellshock.

Helmand: Faces of Conflict

Explore the life of a modern soldier at the very heart of conflict

Helmand: Faces of Conflict at the National War Museum, features the photography of Robert Wilson, war artist with Edinburgh's 52 Infantry Brigade. From the rocket pod on an Apache helicopter to an unfinished jigsaw at base camp, Wilson captures the lives of soldiers and civilians with an unflinching sense of intimacy.

The exhibition features a series of photographs taken from Robert Wilson's official book, Helmand. The photographs depict up-close portraits of soldiers fighting in the war in Afghanistan which has killed almost 1,000 coalition troops to date.

From the faces of weary men returning from three weeks on patrol to the dusty landscape of their surroundings, the photographs are both delicate and monumental in detail and heighten the sense of human vulnerability at the very heart of war.
